Milky Way & Other Galaxies
In summer the head of the “dark emu” is rising in the West. The head is the Coalsack Nebula, a dark nebula, that nestles in under the Crux (Southern Cross) you can clearly see the two pointers just above the horizon – Alpha and Beta Centauri. The big “pink jewel” up higher is the Carina Nebula, always spectacular.
To the right, high, are two other galaxies separate from the Milky Way. They can be seen with the naked eye and are known as the Large and the Small Magellanic Clouds. The glow to the right at horizon level is the light pollution of Perth.
