They were translated as part of the Abbot Placid Spearritt Memorial Scholarship during 2016-2020.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Author\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBorn in Tuy, Galicia, Spain on 5 July 1811, Miguel de los Santos Salvado Rotea entered the novitiate at St Martin of Compostela in 1825 and was ordained there ten years later. He arrived in New Norcia in May 1869 but returned to Spain in February 1879 owing to his failing eyesight. Whilst at New Norcia, he became the second Prior after Venancio Garrido’s death in 1870. A talented man, being an accomplished organist, chorister and collector and repairer of clocks, he also introduced photography to New Norcia (he made his own plates and paper) and he brought to the monastery such musical instruments as the harmonium, double bass and viola. He arrived in New Norcia in May 1869 but returned to Spain in February 1879 owing to his failing eyesight. Whilst at New Norcia, he became the second Prior after Venancio Garrido’s death in 1870. A talented man, being an accomplished organist, chorister and collector and repairer of clocks, he also introduced photography to New Norcia (he made his own plates and paper) and he brought to the monastery such musical instruments as the harmonium, double bass and viola.
